Alternatively you can call the Avis location where you collected the car, providing your booking reference number or rental agreement number. The phone number will be on your rental agreement. If you don’t have it to hand, look up your hire station.

Unfortunately no, the name on the rental agreement, the “named” or “main” driver, must remain as it has been reserved.  Should the main driver be unable to drive the vehicle or pick up the reservation, the rental must be cancelled and re-booked under the new designated name at current pay at location rates.  Please note that for any cancelled reservations there may be cancellation fees as set out in our booking terms and conditions.

If the rental has already begun, you may wish to add an additional driver so that another individual can drive the vehicle, however the named driver cannot be changed.

Smoking is strictly prohibited inside all of our vehicles. If we believe that someone has smoked inside the car during the rental period, an additional charge will be applied to cover our added specialist cleaning costs.

If, on the other hand, at the beginning of your rental you notice a cigarette smell, please let the station know and we will provide you with a new vehicle.

Yes! Simply go to your nearest hire station with the additional driver(s). Every driver must be present and your additional driver(s) will need to show their driver's licence. Adding another driver will incur a charge; the amount will depend on where you hire your vehicle, but we will tell you what it is there and then.

If you are unsatisfied with your choice, we will of course try to change it depending on what is available. If you collected it, simply return it to the hire station. Or if your vehicle was delivered, please call the number on the front of your rental agreement. If we do not have any alternative vehicles available in the category you have chosen, you can also request a paid upgrade to a different category.

On the rare occasion you are unsatisfied with the condition of your vehicle, we are happy to help and will of course change it if necessary subject to vehicle availability. If you feel that your vehicle is not safe to drive, please call the roadside assistance number printed on your contract.

We always check our hire vehicles thoroughly but in case you find damage that is not marked on your rental agreement, please let a member of staff know or call us as soon as possible after collecting it so that we can amend your paperwork accordingly. The rental location will have allocated a car (as per normal Avis Preferred procedures). You will need to make the security gate agent or rental desk staff (if collecting keys) aware of the change.

The condition report in the app should show all damage. If you see any additional damage, this should be reported to a member of staff. Check any rental documents already in the car and make the rental staff aware of any additional damage. There will soon be a damage section on the app where the customer can review all damages and note any discrepancies in the app. If in doubt, contact a member of the rental location team.

We offer theft protection with all our hire vehicles to assist in the event of all or part of your hire vehicle being stolen. The amount you pay depends on the vehicle you hire and where you hire it from. We offer a number of coverage packages to reduce your liability however, stay vigilant as you will not be covered should you leave your hire vehicle with the keys in it. Your booking quote and rental agreement will identify your liability level and our local representatives will also be happy to discuss your available upgraded coverage options when you collect your vehicle.

When a traffic offence occurs, we are notified by the relevant authorities as the registered owner of the vehicle in order to identify the driver of the vehicle. Whenever possible, liability is transferred to the driver of the vehicle at the time of the offence and the authorities re-issue the Penalty/Parking Charge Notice to the driver. We charge an administration fee to cover our costs involved in this process. Following a liability transfer, the authorities contact the driver directly by post with the re-issued fine. Rest assured, the dates of fine payment are updated so that the driver is not affected by the time taken to transfer liability. In some circumstances, liability cannot be transferred and the fine is paid on your behalf by us. The lowest possible fine amount is paid and is charged directly to the customer. Please note, to dispute an offence, the authorities must be contacted directly. Details of the dispute process and all contact details for the authority will be detailed on the re-issued penalty charge notice that you will receive.

Your rental contract, or rental agreement, is the most important document when renting a vehicle. This contains all of your personal information, selected products, quoted price, important information regarding your vehicle and rental locations, and many key terms and conditions. It is very important that you become familiar with your rental agreement for your understanding and safety. In the rare event that a service light comes on during your rental, please contact our roadside assistance at the number listed on your rental agreement and we will arrange a vehicle exchange. We apologise for any inconvenience that this will cause.

We always check all tyres during the pre-rental inspection, so the tyres on your hire vehicle will be in a safe condition. However, we understand they may become worn if you hire a vehicle for a longer period. Should this happen, simply contact your nearest hire station and we will replace them.

Your hire car will run on either diesel or petrol. Or if it's a hybrid, petrol and electricity. It depends which model you choose. But always remember to refill your car with the right type of fuel. If you're in doubt, check your rental paperwork for the fuel type or call your hire station whose number is listed on your rental agreement.

• Write down the names and addresses of anyone involved, including witnesses

• Complete the accident form in your rental agreement paperwork or contact your hire station

• Don’t get your hire vehicle repaired without speaking to us first. This is so we can make sure the vehicle is repaired to the highest standards by a manufacturer or authorised repairer.
