As of the 1 April 2022 our Heathrow Terminal 5 office can be found at our brand-new location at the Holiday Inn London, Bath Road, UB7 0DQ. 

 

When you arrive at Heathrow Airport Terminal 5, please proceed to bus stop 25 (located on the arrivals level of Terminal 5) and take a short, 6-8 minute shuttle journey on our free 24 hour shuttle service.

 

When returning your vehicle please return to our new office. You will then take the short shuttle journey to Terminal 5 where you will be dropped off immediately outside of the arrivals level of Heathrow Terminal 5.

We know that our customers hire vehicles for many different reasons, and have many different refueling needs. For your convenience, we offer 4 different refueling options:

– Bring Back Full If you bring the vehicle back full, or at the same level as the vehicle was picked up at, there won't be any charge. If there happens to be any missing fuel at the start, and it isn't the same as your rental agreement, please let one of our staff know or take a picture if you are in a hurry.

– Fuel Up Front This option allows you to purchase a full tank of fuel at a lower price per litre than our Pay on Return rates. You pay one flat fee for any amount of fuel, so try to return it as close to empty as you can to get the best value. If the vehicle is returned full, we do not charge you for Fuel Up Front.

– EZ Fuel If you drive for 75 miles (120 km) or less you can pre-pay a flat fee and we will take care of refuelling. If you choose to refuel yourself, please keep the receipt and present it when you return the vehicle.

– Pay On Return If you don’t have the time to refuel and haven’t taken Fuel Up Front, we can do it for you. Please keep in mind that this will incur a small fee. Want some more information?

We offer a range of products and services to enhance your journey. If you’re booking online you can reserve extras including child seats, Mobile Wi-Fi, GPS, Travel Companion Tablets, luggage racks and snow chains for most European journeys. Some extras can only be paid for over the counter. Don’t worry if you book online they will still be reserved for you. Just pay for them when you collect your vehicle. In certain countries such as the US, you can only reserve extras over the counter. Remember to plan ahead. Depending where you hire, we’ll need 72 hours’ notice if you book online. If it’s less than 72 hours before your journey, please contact us at the location.

We provide assistance and support in a wide range of languages and are on hand 24/7 over the phone or on email. We can assist with lost luggage, report the loss or theft of mobile phones and tablets, and can help report all lost or stolen credit, debit and charge cards and advise on the best procedure to follow.

In France, with our "Meet & Greet" service, your car will be available at your arrival SNCF train station, even outside of the opening hours of your Avis station.

If the Avis office at the train station is closed when your train arrives, the rental agreement and the keys of your reserved vehicle will be handed to you by an SNCF agent (Offer valid until the closing time of the SNCF station).  As part of a partnership with SNCF, we offer this service for free for all reservations made through SNCF channels (oui.sncf or in SNCF stations). If your reservation was made outside an SNCF channel, this exclusive service is offered to you for only € 20.

TP is our Theft Protection package. This product reduces your excess which means if your rental vehicle is stolen, you will pay a significantly reduced cost, if any cost at all. Check the excess amount indicated on your rental agreement to learn the maximum amount the driver would be liable for in the event that the vehicle is stolen. Once selected, this product will be added to your rental agreement at the beginning of your rental with any associated costs already quoted to you. In addition to the standard breakdown assistance included with your rental, our Roadside Assistance Plus (or Premium Roadside Assistance) service covers any non-mechanical issue you may face. This product removes ancillary costs that may be associated with a vehicle breakdown, such as jump starts or towing fees. When selected, RSN will be included on your signed rental agreement at the beginning of your rental. It will be charged at the end of the rental along with any outstanding rental charges.

We give you the chance to collect miles or points through our partners each time you hire a vehicle, so you can continue to receive a premium service at premium value. Please make sure to include your partner membership number at the time of booking. There are times you won't be able to collect miles or points. This will happen if you're a public-sector employee, using a travel industry or airline employee rate, renting a van, or using a substitute, net or tour operator rate. We're sorry that you've had to cancel your booking with us. Please first ensure that you have read our Booking Conditions for information on cancellation fees. Once your booking is cancelled, Contact us using the icons below to request your refund. Any funds that are to be refunded can take up to 5-7 working days from the date they are processed. If there are any extraordinary circumstances that may affect the above timeframe, our customer care team will let you know. If you have cancelled your booking on the same day you created it, there is nothing to refund as the charges would not have been made until midnight. Any item listed on your statement in this case will be a pre-authorisation hold, not a debit.

It's easy to use a money off or upgrade voucher on your next rental. Simply present the voucher at collection of your next hire car and we'll take care of the rest. Vouchers are valid at all participating rental locations worldwide (listed on the voucher) for a period of 12 months from the date of issue and are pursuant to the terms listed on the vouchers themselves. There are several exceptions: – You can't use a debit card in Iceland and Canada. – We don't accept cards with Solo, JCB or Cirrus logos. – Germany issued Maestro cards are only accepted in Germany. – If you booked online using a PREPAID card, it must be shown at the counter along with another payment card. Two payment cards may be required at the counter for higher-value vehicles if you've booked online or over the phone.  This will be highlighted on your booking confirmation.

Remember, the name on the card must match the driving licence of the main driver.

An ACTO (Avis Company Travel Order) is a special voucher businesses give to staff so they can hire a vehicle with us. Simply show your ACTO, driving licence and company ID when you collect your hire vehicle and we'll invoice your company directly. These vouchers can't be used for online bookings.

If you would like to use these vouchers at work, simply set up an Avis corporate account.

We understand that your child's safety comes first. We only deal with recognised manufacturers and provide child seats that meet the highest industry standards. If your child is under the age of 12 or below 135cm, by law you must use an appropriate seat. This is to help protect your child in an accident, because normal seat belts are designed to fit adults in the stronger shoulder and hip areas. Unfortunately normal seat belts support a child in the wrong place.

We offer van hire in selected stations in a number of countries. If something has not met your expectations, we are happy to replace it with another suitable option, subject to availability. Simply go manage your booking, contact us, or use our app. You won’t be charged for any updates, but, if you upgrade with higher value services you will pay the difference. We will inform you of any change in the price before making the change. If you downgrade, we unfortunately can’t repay the difference so please choose carefully. To hire a car in the UK, you need to be at least 23 years of age at the moment of collecting the vehicle and have held a driving licence for at least one year. If you or your additional drivers are under the age of 25, you'll need to pay an extra fee per day. The amount depends on where you hire a car, because the law and insurance terms vary between countries. If the location charges a premium fee, it could cost more. The minimum age you can hire a car also varies from country to country. You can find specific information in our terms and conditions or Contact us using the below icons. Under the age of 25, you can hire cars from Group A (e.g. Hyundai i10), Group B (e.g. Ford Fiesta), Group C (e.g. Seat Leon), Group E (e.g. Vauxhall Astra), and Group I (e.g. VW Golf (auto). There is currently no age maximum, so long as you have had a full, valid, licence for at least 1 year. Some additional steps may be required for those who are over the age of 75 on the date of scheduled return. The Premium Location Fee, which is included in your booking quote, helps to cover the extra operating costs incurred at premium locations such as airports, train stations and city centres. While the Premium Location Fee, also known as the City Supplement or Airport Surcharge, is included in your reservation quote, it is also applied as a percentage to any additional counter products selected at the rental location. For clarity, this is itemised on the rental agreement and invoice. Ordering cars into groups helps us provide a premium service, because there is never any confusion over the car you are hiring and whether you're eligible to drive it. The only thing you need to do differently is pay to add them, so they're covered under your hire agreement. Remember, we need to see all driving licences when you collect your hire vehicle. The amount you'll pay will be in your online quote. In some countries, drivers who share a surname don't have to pay more. Very few insurance policies cover you to drive a hire car. Even if you can provide evidence that it does, unfortunately we won't be able to reduce the amount you pay. This is because the rental agreement is between you and us, not us and your insurance company. Damage cover is included as standard with your rental. Should you have an accident, you will still need to pay a fixed (excess) fee unless you choose to upgrade your cover. However, you could choose to claim this back through your insurance company. But bear in mind any excess fee you may have with your current insurance policy. A fixed value voucher only covers hire fees up to a certain amount so you'll need to provide a payment card in the name of the driver and pay for any extra costs not covered by the voucher. Remember, if your child is below the age of 12 or under 135cm, by law you must use an appropriate seat. This is to help protect your child in a collision because normal seat belts are designed to fit adults in the stronger shoulder and hip areas. Unfortunately normal seat belts support a child in the wrong place.

Your excess is your financial responsibility, or amount you would pay, in the event of damage or theft occurring to the vehicle. The amount you pay depends on the vehicle you hire, which country you hire it in and whether you choose to reduce the excess by upgrading your level of cover. When you hire a vehicle with us, you'll automatically receive third party, vehicle damage (Collision Damage Waiver) and vehicle theft cover to safeguard you on your journey. If you book on the US website you may find that vehicle damage and vehicle theft cover are not included, as some American credit cards provide insurance for car hire. Third party cover is the basic level you need to hire a vehicle, that's why we always include it. Should you damage another vehicle or passengers and their property, you won't have to pay for repairs or injuries. But, if you damage the vehicle you will still need to pay a fixed excess fee unless you upgrade your cover. Find out how much you pay depending on what you hire and where you hire it. While we try to provide our service to everyone who books a vehicle, there may be circumstances where we cannot give you a vehicle. Some of these scenarios are below:

  • If you did not satisfy the driving licence requirements: A valid driving licence must be provided. An international driving licence or an official English translation, by notary, of the driving licence must be provided if the driving licence was issued in a non-roman alphabet. Additionally, the driver must have held the licence for a minimum of one year, evidence is required to be provided to confirm this minimum duration. Please note that these minimum requirements could be longer for some of our special vehicles, such as our Prestige vehicles.

  • If you did not satisfy the identification/security check: you must provide the following documents: The payment card used to make the reservation (plus an additional card is required for certain vehicles), a photographic ID issued within the last 10 years, passports, photographic driving licences, national identity cards and government issued certificates are accepted, proof of address, a recent utility bill or bank statement (driving licences are not accepted as proof of address).

  • If you did not pass the DVLA's licence sharing check

You are welcome to return the vehicle early if you absolutely need to. Please keep in mind however, that if you return early and have prepaid for your rental, there won't be a refund for any unused days.   • Driving licence*
  • Credit card (if it’s a high value vehicle two payment cards must be provided, one of which needs to be a credit card),
  • Proof of any discount (such as a frequent flyer or Avis Preferred card),
  • Photo ID for international rentals (such as a passport or driving licence)

*If you hold a UK driving licence and are renting a car or van in the UK, you must bring a DVLA licence code with you when collecting your vehicle. Codes can be requested from online (you will be asked to submit your driving licence number, National Insurance number and home postcode), or by calling the DVLA on 0300 083 0013 (Monday to Friday 8am7pm, Saturday 8am2pm). The code (which will be valid for a maximum period of 21 days from the point it is generated) must be presented to the store and still be valid when picking up any vehicle from us.

You may also need to bring proof of where you live, which could include a recent utility bill or bank statement.  Your driving licence will not be accepted as proof of address.  For more information on the rental requirements where you wish to rent, please review our location specific terms and conditions.

If you’re an Avis Preferred member, simply bring your membership card and your driving licence. Lastly, if you booked online or over the phone, bringing a print out of your booking confirmation showing your unique booking reference can streamline your check-out process. We offer you a couple of ways to pay to make it easy. You can pay online now or pay on collection and we'll charge you at the end of the hire. The choice is yours.

We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Diners/Discover debit, credit or charge cards. There are a few exceptions: One credit card and one debit card may be required at the counter for higher-value vehicles in the UK. You can't use a debit card in Iceland and Canada. We don't accept cards with Solo, JCB or Cirrus logos – even if they carry the Visa or MasterCard logo. Germany issued Maestro cards are only accepted in Germany. If you booked online using a PREPAID card, it must be shown at the counter along with another payment card. Two payment cards may be required at the counter for higher-value vehicles; if you've booked online, or over the phone, this will be highlighted on your booking confirmation.

Remember, the name on the card must match the driving licence of the main driver and must contain both the first and last names to complete the check-out process. When you signed up for Avis Preferred you provided your preferred payment method. We use this each time you book. You can update your profile and change the payment card at any time.

You can pay for Fuel Up Front when you collect your hire vehicle. This simply means that you pay for a full tank of fuel upfront, saving you the hassle and time of refuelling before you return. This not only saves time but also money, because we offer a discounted rate compared to our fuel on return rates. If you choose Fuel Up Front but bring your hire vehicle back with a full tank, don't worry, we won't charge you for Fuel Up Front. But if you bring it back partly full, unfortunately we can't provide a refund and you will be charged the full amount as listed on your rental agreement, so try to return the vehicle as close to empty as possible.

Whether you're hiring a car or van, you just need a clean driving licence that covers the vehicle you're hiring. Don't worry if you have points on your driving licence. You can still hire a car in the UK if you have six or less points. You must have held your driving licence for at least one year if you are hiring in the UK. This will be different in other countries so ensure you check the Location Specific Conditions. Please remember to bring your physical driving licence with you when you collect your vehicle (we don't access electronic licenses). If you're driving abroad, you and your additional driver will also need to bring your International Driving Permits.
